Ventura Raceway opened its 2013 season with a full program of exciting short track racing action featuring five adult classes and our three division kid's class. Racing was top notch as racers returned to action looking forward to a new season.
Tom Hendricks started the new 2013 with an exciting win over Guy Woodward and Rick Hendrix in the 30 lap feature for VRA Sprints Saturday night. Hendricks came from the 5th starting position to take his first ever VRA Sprint Car victory. Following Hendricks and Woodward to the line were Rick Hendrix, Victor Davis and Jeff Fillingame. Heat race wins went to Bruce Douglass and Rick Hendrix.
VRA Senior Sprints opened their season with 8 cars in the pits. Mike Cook took the victory in the one heat race run. The 20 lap feature was all 2012 series champion Clif Warren as he led from the opening green flag to the checkered. Ed Schwarz finished second with Victor Davis third, Bruce Douglass fourth and Chris Meredith fifth.
Chris was on the first lap when he was included in a four wide turn 4 incident. His rear wheel went over Mike Cook's front wheel and broke his right rear shock. Even though he survived the accident, unlike Mike Cook and Wally Pankratz, who was collected in Cook's spin, he struggled the remaining 29 laps of the race. He never gave up and finished in 5th.

VRA Senior Sprints continued their season with one heat race for the five cars in the pits. Veteran driver Mike Cook took the heat win. The twenty lap feature was all a strong performance by Chris Meredith who held off defending series champion to take his first win in 2014. Warren finished second followed by Mike Cook, Wally Pankratz and Steve Brown. After 9 races Clif Warren holds a 275 point lead over Mike Cook.
